A Growing Area Near Ho Chi Minh City Plans to Become a City with Seaports and Highways
The region of Phu My, located near Ho Chi Minh City, is seeking opinions to upgrade into a city. The municipality is proposing to establish new districts and a city named Phu My in the Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu province. To ensure the proper procedures are followed, local authorities are actively informing and guiding residents in villages and neighborhoods to form organizations and gather the opinions of voters.
The provincial People’s Committee has requested the Party Committee, the government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Phu My town and other relevant administrative units to effectively carry out communication campaigns. These campaigns aim to raise awareness among organizations and the people about the necessity and benefits of establishing new districts and a city. The initiatives seek to foster unity and agreement among the local community.
Efforts are being made to enhance communication and highlight the importance of the proposed plan. The plan aims to accelerate urbanization in line with the overall socio-economic development of the province. The goal is to improve the material and spiritual living standards of the local population, in accordance with the desires of the Party, the government, and the people.
The proposal will focus on gathering opinions from voters regarding the establishment of a city based on the administrative boundaries of Phu My town. Upon its establishment, the new city will be named Phu My. Additionally, the opinions of voters will also be collected on the establishment of new districts based on the existing administrative boundaries of Toc Tien, Tan Hoa, Tan Hai, and the corresponding names of these districts after their establishment.
After the votes are counted in the relevant administrative units, the People’s Committee of Phu My town will consolidate and submit the plan to the People’s Council for discussion. The plan is required to be completed before April 25, 2024. The People’s Committee will also gather public opinion and present it to the People’s Council at all levels by April 30, 2024.
According to the 2025 development plan, Phu My will become a city under the jurisdiction of the Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu province. It will transform into a coastal urban area, serving as a hub for deep-sea ports, industrial specialization, maritime industry, trade, logistics services, and an important transportation hub.
Phu My, spanning approximately 334 hectares, is located west of the Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu province. It is situated along National Highway 51, about 60 km from Ho Chi Minh City, 40 km from Vung Tau City, and 20 km from Ba Ria City.
In addition to its close proximity to major urban areas, Phu My benefits from being connected to a diverse transportation infrastructure network that has been invested in. This network includes various regional transportation routes such as National Highway 51, the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway, Road 911B, the Phuoc An Bridge linking to Nhon Trach (Đồng Nai), the Ring Road 4, and the river transportation system.
Although not directly connected, Phu My is also adjacent to other important transportation infrastructure such as the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, the Ho Chi Minh City – Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway, and the Long Thanh International Airport. Thanks to its developed infrastructure and deep-water port advantage, Phu My has a rich history of industrial development in the Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu province. It has now become the “industrial hub” of the entire province.
