A Series of Fuel-Efficient Chinese Cars Coming to Vietnam

The automotive market in Vietnam is about to experience a fresh wave of fuel-efficient and stylish vehicles. A number of Chinese car manufacturers are planning to introduce their models in the country, offering consumers more choices and affordable options. Let’s take a closer look at these upcoming arrivals:

1. Chery Exploration 06 (Jaecoo 7)

Recently, the Urban Edition of the Chery Exploration 06 was launched in China. This model, which will also be sold under the brand name Jaecoo, is expected to make its way to Vietnam later this year. The Jaecoo 7 belongs to the B+ SUV segment and will directly compete with popular models like the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Honda HR-V.

The Jaecoo 7 features an impressive design with vertically placed headlamps that are divided into two tiers. The daytime running lights are positioned above, seamlessly connected to the grille. Excitingly, a future Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variant is expected to achieve an impressive fuel consumption rate of only 1 liter per 100km.

2. Exeed Yaoguang C-DM

Another Chinese car model poised to enter the Vietnamese market is the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM. This luxury compact SUV is a product of Exeed, a subsidiary of Chery. Currently available in China in five different versions, the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM is priced between 159,800 and 225,800 CNY (approximately 519 to 734 million VND).

With a design focused on sportiness, the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM stands out with its matrix headlights, frameless grille, and other impressive design elements.

Inside, the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM offers a premium and modern experience with features such as Nappa leather seats, ventilated and heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The entertainment system includes a 12.3-inch center touchscreen display and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

In terms of performance, the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM is equipped with a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, delivering a maximum output of 367 horsepower and 605 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 7.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

The PHEV configuration of the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM includes a 19.43 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing an electric range of up to 83km. With a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery, the Exeed Yaoguang C-DM can cover a distance of up to 1,300km. Remarkably, it achieves a fuel consumption rate of 1.49L/100km, making it a tough competitor for high-end compact SUVs like the Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V.

3. Chery Fengyun A8

The Chery Fengyun A8, a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), has also been spotted on the horizon for Vietnam. This model is based on the Arrizo 8 sedan, which is manufactured by Chery.

Targeting the luxury sedan segment, the Chery Fengyun A8 stands out with its sleek and elegant design. Although classified as a compact sedan, it offers slightly more space compared to its competitors, such as the KIA Cerato and Hyundai Elantra. With overall dimensions of 4,780 x 1,843 x 1,487mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 2,790mm, the Fengyun A8 exudes a sense of spaciousness.

In terms of safety, the Fengyun A8 offers Level 2 autonomous driving assistance and various active safety features.

The Chery Fengyun A8 PHEV is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine combined with an electric motor. Users can charge the battery, and the fast-charging system allows for a 30% to 80% charge in approximately 19 minutes. The official fuel consumption figure for the Chery Fengyun A8 is 1.1L/100km in mixed driving conditions. Even without the assistance of the electric motor, it achieves an impressive fuel consumption rate of 4.2L/100km. With a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery, the Chery Fengyun A8 can travel up to 1,400km.

4. BYD Destroyer 05

The BYD Destroyer 05, another sedan in the C-segment, is likely to hit the roads of Vietnam soon. Along with the Cruiser 05, this model was registered for industrial property rights in Vietnam in May 2023.

In China, the BYD Destroyer 05 is available in various versions, with prices ranging from $18,500 to $23,850. This sedan is set to compete against models like the Toyota Corolla Altis and Honda Civic.
