Almost the Entire Town Was in Danger!
Imagine the shock of Mathew Sims, a resident of Jacksonville, Florida, when he discovered a highly dangerous object in his backyard on March 20. Mathew usually lets his dog play in the yard, and that day, the dog unexpectedly started digging in an area near the backyard fence. Concerned that his beloved pet might bring something harmful inside, Mathew went outside to investigate. To his surprise, the dog had unearthed a corroded metallic object.
Upon closer inspection, Mathew realized that the object was long and tapered, measuring about 30 cm in length and weighing around 4.5 kg. It was highly likely that this was an unexploded bomb from a wartime era, buried underground for many years. If accidentally detonated, it could have caused devastating damage.
Matthew immediately alerted the authorities, and they quickly evacuated the nearby residents and deployed a bomb disposal squad to safely remove the unexploded bomb. Matthew expressed relief when he saw the bomb being taken away from his backyard, saying, “I feel so relieved seeing them remove the bomb. They finished their job and left within minutes.”
The discovery of this potentially fatal bomb serves as a reminder of how unexpected dangers can still lurk beneath the surface in seemingly ordinary places. It is crucial to be vigilant and report any suspicious findings to the authorities promptly.
