The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced the opening of the application period for Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grants, totaling $1.256 billion.
Enhancing Road Safety
These grants aim to assist communities in developing road safety action plans and improving hazardous road corridors by implementing effective interventions. The funding can also be utilized for testing safety features.
The primary objective of the program is to reduce the number of fatalities and severe injuries on highways, streets, and roads. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated, “Every community knows some intersection or stretch of road that is dangerous to approach – now we have an opportunity to make them safer.”
Available for Various Entities
A wide range of entities are eligible to apply for these grants, including cities, towns, counties, tribal governments, special districts, certain transit agencies, multijurisdictional groups, and metropolitan planning organizations.
Application Deadlines
The deadlines for implementation grants are May 16. For planning and demonstration grants, applications can be submitted on April 4, May 16, or August 29.
Last year, the SS4A granted over $1.7 billion to more than 1,000 communities. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make your community safer!
