Business Today: Nearly 10,000 Relocation Apartments Handed Over in Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has recently transferred the state-owned housing fund within the city (excluding the City Housing Management and Trading Company) to the Housing Management and Construction Appraisal Center (under the Department of Construction) for operation and management^1^. According to the Department of Construction, the center has received 9,967 out of 10,328 relocation apartments, with 365 apartments yet to be received and 296 apartments not accepted. These apartments were allocated by the People’s Committees of districts, townships, and Thu Duc City for resettlement[^2^].
The Housing Management and Construction Appraisal Center has also received 2,333 relocation land plots as instructed by the HCMC People’s Committee. So far, the center has received 1,216 plots, with 685 plots yet to be received and 432 plots not accepted^1^.
Regarding the housing fund for resettlement, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment suggests that for old apartment buildings, the Department of Construction should advise the HCMC People’s Committee to expedite the procedures, ensuring the availability of the resettlement housing fund by April or May to accommodate affected households due to various projects[^3^].
Within the housing and land fund, HCMC has planned to auction off 4,927 apartments and 40 plots. Recently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment reported to the HCMC People’s Committee about adjusting the timeline for the detailed plan to organize land auctions and auctioning off 3,790 apartments in the new urban area of Thu Thiem (Thu Duc City)[^3^].
Among these, the 3,790 apartments (lots R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5 in the 38.4-hectare area of An Khanh Ward) are part of the program to build 12,500 resettlement apartments for displaced residents in the new urban area of Thu Thiem. The preparation of documents for the auction is expected to be completed before July 7, and the auction is scheduled to take place before September 26[^4^].
The HCMC People’s Committee has directed relevant units to propose and report on the transformation from the objective of the resettlement housing fund to commercial housing, as well as establishing public ownership for common-use items such as corridors, staircases, parks, pathways, and submitting to the HCMC People’s Committee for public ownership rights over public assets in order to conduct auctions[^4^].
