Celebrating One Year: Ground Breaking for JFK Terminal

JFK Terminal

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in collaboration with JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), is thrilled to celebrate the one-year anniversary of breaking ground on the new $4.2 billion Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. This monumental project marks a significant milestone in the airport’s journey towards becoming a world-class global gateway.

A Transformative Development

The development of the new terminal will take place in two phases. The expansion project will include the installation of 10 gates, airline-branded passenger drop-off zones, up to five airline lounges, a state-of-the-art ground transportation center, and a shared taxi stand in conjunction with JFK International Airport’s Terminal 5. Passengers can look forward to seamless travel experiences with the introduction of digital concierge services, an automated baggage system, and the implementation of the latest TSA screening technologies.

A Symbol of Progress

Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton expressed his excitement about witnessing the steel frame of the new Terminal 6 taking shape. This tangible progress signifies the airport’s transformation into a world-class hub. The Port Authority’s ambitious $19 billion reimagining of John F. Kennedy International Airport recognizes the immense economic opportunities that this impressive international terminal will bring to the surrounding communities.

Timeline and Expectations

The project is well underway, with the first five gates scheduled to open in early 2026. The construction is anticipated to be fully completed by 2028, allowing travelers to experience the enhanced facilities and services promised by the new terminal. In addition to Lufthansa Group already committing to operating flights to multiple European destinations, negotiations are ongoing with other airlines to further expand the offerings.
