Delta to Open New Tier of Premium Airport Lounges This Year
Delta Air Lines is set to launch a new tier of premium airport lounges, offering an exclusive experience for high-spending travelers. The first of these “premium” lounges will open in June at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, spanning an impressive 38,000 square feet, making it the largest lounge in Delta’s network. Additionally, high-end lounges will open in Boston and Los Angeles later this year.
Delta has been expanding its network of Sky Clubs in recent years to cater to the increasing number of travelers gaining access through memberships, airline status, credit card benefits, or premium cabin travel. In response to customer feedback, Delta revised its plans to limit lounge access and is now focusing on a more personalized approach for airport travelers. This move aligns Delta with other major airlines like United Airlines, which operates Polaris lounges, and American Airlines, known for its Flagship lounges and standard airport clubs.
At present, Delta has not disclosed the entry requirements for its new premium lounges. However, the JFK location will feature a full-service restaurant and “wellness” areas to enhance the passenger experience. Additionally, Delta has announced plans to open standard Sky Clubs in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a new location in Seattle this year. The airline also intends to expand its clubs in Miami and at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
The introduction of these new clubs reflects Delta’s focus on the growing importance of premium travelers. In 2023, the airline reported a 26% increase in “premium” revenue from business-class and premium economy tickets, generating $19.1 billion in sales. Meanwhile, sales of main cabin tickets rose by 20% to reach $24.5 billion.
As Delta continues to enhance its offerings for high-spending passengers, the new tier of premium lounges is sure to be a welcome addition. Stay tuned to Business Today for the latest updates in the world of finance and travel.
