Exciting Upgrades Coming to Sportage and New MPVs in Various Sizes
Kia has recently announced its short-term plans for the next year and a half, revealing the introduction of several noteworthy new models. During an annual investor meeting held in Seoul, South Korea, Kia shared its future strategies and financial goals. The highlight of this event was the unveiling of their upcoming new vehicles in the near future.
A Glimpse of the Future
Five major projects have been confirmed for release in 2024. These include the all-new Kia EV3 and Kia K4. While the K4 has already been launched and is awaiting release, the global debut of the EV3 is just around the corner. However, the concept version of the EV3 has already been unveiled, giving us a glimpse of what to expect.
Following that, three models will receive upgrades in 2024: the EV6 electric SUV, the best-selling Sportage SUV, and the flagship sedan K8. All three models were launched in 2021, and now it’s time for updates.
Starting with the Kia K8, this “new” lineup will receive a mid-cycle refresh, mainly focusing on design and technology enhancements. The K8 will continue to use a platform similar to the Hyundai Grandeur/Azura and will primarily be sold in South Korea.
Meanwhile, the Kia EV6 facelift will focus on technology enhancements rather than design changes. Similar to the upgraded Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 might receive a larger battery capacity.
Other expected changes include remote software updates via internet connectivity, new active safety technologies, improved infotainment software, and better standard features.
Finally, the highly anticipated Kia Sportage facelift is expected to be the highlight among these new models. While the prototype has been spotted testing since the end of last year, not much has been revealed. The exterior design might be updated to resemble the latest Sorento/Carnival models.
In terms of powertrain, there won’t be significant changes. Kia will only make slight refinements to the existing versions. For example, the PHEV variant might receive a larger battery to increase its electric driving range, while regular engine options might offer slightly better fuel efficiency. The dual-clutch transmission is expected to be replaced by an 8-speed automatic.
The interior of the Sportage facelift will likely feature a large curved display similar to the Sorento’s. Connectivity, safety technologies, and convenience features will also be updated.
New MPVs and Vans
Starting from 2025, Kia will shift its focus to the commercial vehicle segment with an all-new lineup of PBVs (Passenger Business Vehicles), which will include vans and MPVs. These versatile electric vehicles have been showcased since early 2024 and feature interesting “transforming” capabilities between pickup trucks and vans.
The new PBV lineup will debut with medium and large-sized vehicles, followed by smaller models at a later stage.
