Hà Tiên: A Multi-Center Border City with a Surge of Capital Investment
Hà Tiên, a city in Vietnam, is undergoing a transformation into a multi-center border city with a comprehensive and sustainable development plan. With its strategic location and rich cultural heritage, Hà Tiên aims to become a major hub in the Mekong Delta region.
A Key International Border City in the Mekong Delta Region
According to Mr. Nguyễn Thanh Nhàn, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Kiên Giang Province, Hà Tiên is not only a border town but also a coastal city that boasts a rich cultural heritage. It has significant importance in terms of national defense and security. The approved master plan for Hà Tiên envisions it as an international city that encompasses cultural, administrative, scientific, educational, and tourism aspects. It also has a diverse ecosystem with historical cultural heritage and natural wonders.
To realize this vision, Hà Tiên will be divided into eight important development areas covering a total area of 21,432 hectares. These include traditional cultural-historical urban areas, border urban areas, eco-tourism areas with water submergence, agricultural and high-tech industrial areas, community-based tourism areas, coastal eco-tourism areas, central commercial areas, resort tourism areas, and port-airport urban areas for transit tourism.
Experts believe that this multi-center urban development model is the right approach for Hà Tiên due to its potential in terms of location, cultural heritage, and natural attractions. While other cities focus solely on improving their tourism services, Kiên Giang Province’s leadership envisions a comprehensive investment approach to create a strong foundation for the province’s socio-economic development. This, in turn, will lead to the flourishing of the tourism and service industries. The short-term plan for Hà Tiên until 2030 includes promoting urbanization, upgrading transportation and technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, commercial, cultural, sports, healthcare, and educational centers to meet the standards of a second-class urban area.
Massive Investments Flowing into the Coastal City
During a conference held in Hà Tiên, the Kiên Giang Province announced four investment projects in eco-tourism, residential areas, and resorts across a total area of over 16 hectares, with a total investment capital of over 2,460 billion VND. Additionally, 17 memorandums of understanding were signed for various projects including tourism, commerce, urban development, industrial parks, fish processing, water supply, and wastewater treatment plants, covering over 1,200 hectares and having a total investment capital of over 37,400 billion VND. Notably, well-known investors such as Sungroup, Tân Á Đại Thành, Hà Đô, and NewstarGroup are participating in these projects. The presence of these reputable investors indicates that Hà Tiên is becoming a new potential investment destination in the region.
Up until now, there have not been many large-scale investment projects implemented in the area. However, Hà Tiên gained recognition through the New Vegas commercial promotion project (part of the New Hà Tiên Urban Area project) by NewstarGroup. Situated in the city center with a unique coastal orientation, New Vegas Center attracts nearly 2,000 visitors per day. New Vegas is an elaborate project with diverse product models and high-quality facilities, offering entertainment for people of all ages and significant business opportunities. In 2024, NewstarGroup plans to unveil the New Alys beach villa project, which will offer multifunctional value from business to residency, creating a premium service ecosystem unprecedented in Hà Tiên. This demonstrates the immense potential of Hà Tiên, which continues to attract investors of all sizes and promises even more surprises in the future.
