Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently granted an interview to Hungary’s M1 television station, where he made an intriguing statement about President Donald Trump. Orbán stated, “He has a very clear vision. He said he would not spend a penny on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. That’s why the war will end, because it’s clear that Ukraine cannot sustain itself.”

Orbán’s comment came after President Trump hosted the Hungarian leader at Mar-a-Lago resort on March 8th. The former US president and a small group of close advisers met with Orbán for about an hour. According to sources familiar with the matter, the meeting was described as a “social gathering” without any official agenda, with another source calling it “friendly.”

Hungary’s Prime Minister Orbán has long been a persistent opponent of the European Union (EU) and NATO’s efforts to support Ukraine since Russia launched its military campaign over two years ago. Hungary has consistently hindered Western humanitarian aid negotiations, although the country recently agreed to a €50 billion aid package for Kyiv and approved Sweden’s accession to NATO after months of delay.

Orbán added, “If the Americans don’t provide money and weapons, along with Europe, the conflict will end. And if the Americans don’t contribute financially, Europe alone will not be able to fund this war. And then the conflict will end,” expressing his view as “supporting peace.”

According to CNN, former President Donald Trump, who recently gained a significant advantage as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate, has pursued a similar isolationist approach as he campaigns to return to the White House after the November elections. Trump has claimed he could end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours if reelected.

Furthermore, CNN reports that former advisers during Trump’s presidency have praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, and some believe that if Trump were to secure a second term, he would significantly change America’s perspective on its own role in the world. This includes the possibility of the US withdrawing from NATO and reducing its commitments to other military alliances.

NATO will face real danger,” stated John Bolton, former US National Security Advisor under Trump, in an interview with CNN.
