According to a global spokesperson for McDonald’s, the company is actively working to resolve the issue. “We are aware of how the technology malfunction has impacted the affected stores. Our team is diligently addressing this problem. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience. Rest assured, this issue is not related to network security,” the spokesperson stated.

The Japanese division of McDonald’s acknowledged technical difficulties in their stores through a post on X. Subsequently, another post from McDonald’s Japan confirmed that several stores nationwide had ceased their operations due to the issue, although no specific number was mentioned.

Many Australians took to social media to share images of McDonald’s restaurants with apology signs displayed outside, acknowledging the inconvenience caused. Australian news outlets reported that while some stores closed down, others resorted to accepting customer orders through traditional pen and paper methods.

In the United Kingdom, a spokesperson for McDonald’s stated that the disruption had been resolved for the affected restaurants in the UK and Ireland. The McDonald’s app encountered over 600 instances of disruption on the morning of March 15th.

In China, the hashtag “McDonald’s not operating” became the fifth most searched term on the country’s social media platform, Weibo, on the afternoon of March 15th.
