In a remarkable achievement, the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority witnessed a record-breaking 50.6 million passengers in 2023. This public body is responsible for the development, promotion, and safe operation of Reagan National and Dulles International airports.
Recovery and Hard Work Lead to Success
Jack Potter, President and CEO of the authority, attributed this milestone to the ongoing recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the dedicated efforts of the airport team and their partners. He expressed pride in their work, stating, “We are not slowing down as upgrades continue for our customers at Reagan National, as well as a new concourse at Dulles International. Our team thrives on recruiting new airline service and finding new ways to provide an outstanding travel experience while planning to meet the region’s long-term transportation needs.”
Reagan National Airs High Numbers
Reagan National Airport recorded 25.5 million passengers in 2023, marking a 6.2 percent increase from the previous year when the previous record was set. Despite capacity restrictions at New York City airports and flight reductions due to a runway rehabilitation project, Reagan National Airport achieved this growth. Furthermore, the project includes upgrades to restrooms in Terminal 2 and the creation of relaxing spaces at the gates and terminals, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Dulles International Takes Flight
Dulles International Airport also played a significant role in the impressive numbers, with a total of 25.1 million passengers in 2023. The airport witnessed the successful launch of nonstop flights by eight new airlines in both 2022 and 2023. Currently, Dulles International Airport offers service to 80 domestic and 59 international destinations through 42 airlines.
Business Today commends the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority’s achievement in reaching new heights in passenger numbers. With upgrades and expansion plans in progress, travelers can expect an even better travel experience in the future.
