The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), alongside the Westmoreland County Transit Authority (WCTA) and Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce, is reaching out to the public to gather feedback on the Transit Development Plan. This plan serves as a strategic roadmap for enhancing transit service in Westmoreland County. The authorities are encouraging residents to provide their input, with the feedback period open until March 22.
Improving Transit Service
The Transit Development Plan outlines several options for improving the transit network, categorized as improved, enhanced, and aspirational. The improved network options can be funded within WCTA’s current budget, while the other categories would require additional funding.
Investing in Transit
Recognizing the need for increased investment in public transit, Governor Shapiro has proposed a budget that includes an additional $282 million for transit. Pennsylvania Secretary of Transportation, Mike Carroll, emphasized the significance of this investment at an event discussing the budget proposal. The aim is to create a reliable public transit system that can cater to the current and future needs of nearly one million Pennsylvanians who rely on it daily. The opportunity to support residents and contribute to the development of our communities’ futures is a responsibility that PennDOT and its partners take seriously.
Share Your Feedback
The public is invited to share their thoughts and ideas on the transit plan. Feedback can be submitted online or in-person at the Westmoreland Transit facility in Greensburg or any local public libraries. Those who prefer written comments can drop them off at either Westmoreland Transit or the libraries.
