Peugeot has recently introduced the new generation of their popular SUV model, the Peugeot 5008, in Europe. This latest version offers three electric powertrain options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric. The pure electric variant takes the lead, showcasing Peugeot’s commitment to electric mobility.

Peugeot 5008: The Bigger Version of the 3008

Essentially, the Peugeot 5008 2024 is an enlarged version of the previously launched 3008. The main difference lies in the addition of a third-row seat, making it a spacious 7-seater SUV. To accommodate the extra space, Peugeot has increased the wheelbase from 2.74m to 2.9m and redesigned the rear windshield to be more upright, deviating from the sloping coupe style of the 3008.

Despite the increased size, the default luggage space remains at 259 liters. However, folding down the third-row seats expands the capacity to 748 liters, almost one and a half times that of the 3008.

A More Dominant SUV Design

Unlike the 3008’s coupe-like SUV design, the Peugeot 5008 2024 boasts a more dominant SUV appearance. The roofline and rear end are kept straight and flat. This design choice not only enhances the aesthetics but also maximizes the space for the third-row seats. Otherwise, the specific details both inside and outside the vehicle resemble its sibling model.

Identical Interior to the 3008

Apart from the presence of the third-row seats, the cabin of the Peugeot 5008 closely resembles that of the 3008. The focal point remains the i-Cockpit with a panoramic 21-inch display. Familiar features such as ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, Alcantara seats (on the higher-end models), and functions like keyless entry and adaptive cruise control are retained.

Diverse Powertrain Options, No More Traditional Petrol Engine

The powertrain lineup of the Peugeot 5008 2024 closely mirrors that of the 3008 but with some improvements. The standard variant still features a single electric motor delivering 211 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque to the front wheels. It is paired with a 73 kWh battery, providing a range of 500 km on a single charge.

The upgraded version employs a larger 98 kWh battery, delivering a slightly more powerful electric motor (228 horsepower, the same torque as before), resulting in a range of 660 km/h.

The top-of-the-line pure electric variant of the Peugeot 5008 2024 adds an additional rear motor with 107 horsepower, bringing the total system power to 316 horsepower. This version is equipped with a high-capacity 98 kWh battery, although the range is slightly reduced to 500 km due to the higher energy consumption. All configurations support fast charging, allowing for a 10-minute charge to cover 100 km or an 80% charge in just 30 minutes.

For hybrid options, Peugeot has announced two versions for global customers. The hybrid variant features a 1.2L 134 horsepower engine, similar to the one in the 3008. The electric motor is integrated into the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, reducing fuel consumption by 15%.

On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant is set to launch in 2025. It combines a 123 horsepower electric motor with a 148 horsepower engine and can run up to 80 km on electric power alone, with no need for fuel.

Pricing

The pricing for the Peugeot 5008 2024 will be announced in September, coinciding with the official launch. Considering that the starting price for the 3008 is around $44,400 (equivalent to 1.1 billion VND), the 5008 is expected to be priced above $50,000 (equivalent to 1.24 billion VND).
