Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, stated that the scenario of Western forces deploying troops to Ukraine to deter the Russian military is not “unthinkable.”

Sikorski made these comments during a speech to the Polish Parliament on March 8th, responding to previous remarks made by French President Macron about the possibility of European troops being sent to Ukraine to prevent Russia from winning the armed conflict.

According to European Pravda, Sikorski also mentioned the United Nations coalition providing combat units to assist South Korea at the start of the Korean War in 1950.

The Polish Foreign Minister said, “That is why I welcome the recent initiative by France. Because, in my opinion, there is a good intention behind that initiative, which is to make Russian President think about what the next step will be, instead of him being confident that we will do nothing and allow him to develop his own scenario.”

Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, also suggested in February that “some NATO and EU member countries are considering sending troops to Ukraine on a bilateral basis.”

Earlier this week, following a meeting with President Macron, Czech President Petr Pavel expressed his support for finding new solutions to support the Ukrainian military, including continuing discussions on the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine.

This statement by the Polish Foreign Minister highlights the willingness of Western countries to consider all options in order to deter further Russian aggression and ensure the security of Ukraine.
