President Putin Condemns Western Double Standards
At a meeting with participants of the World Youth Festival, President Putin criticized the double standards applied by Western countries. He pointed out that the United States had taken actions in Iraq, Syria, and the former Yugoslavia without approval from the United Nations Security Council. Putin raised the question, “If they are allowed to do so, why shouldn’t other nations be allowed to protect their vital interests in a similar way?”
Highlighting the numerous flashpoints around the world, the Russian President emphasized that any war or hostile action is a tragedy. He also mentioned that the people of Donbass had turned to Russia for help, expecting support in their time of need.
“Why should Russia not stand up to defend its people? Moreover, it is not happening thousands of kilometers away from national borders but right next to us, when they are asking for our assistance.”
Furthermore, Putin regarded the artillery attack by Ukrainian armed forces on civilians in Belgorod as a war crime. Russia will ensure that the perpetrators do not escape justice.
President Putin stated, “Shelling civilian objects, launching missiles at squares and civilians is undoubtedly a war crime. We will address this matter and will not let the culprits go unpunished.”
He expressed his gratitude to the residents of Belgorod and the volunteers who are contributing significantly to the common cause. Their courage, readiness to fight, and patriotic spirit in the face of the current situation are highly appreciated.
