Project Delayed, 10,000m2 Land Abandoned
The project to develop a land area of 10,000m2 has been delayed, resulting in the abandonment of the site. The project was initially approved by the Hà Tĩnh Provincial People’s Committee in 2010. It was planned to include a market, a hotel, a commercial center, and a comprehensive service center. The total investment for the project was over 400 billion VND, and it was intended to be built on a prime 6-hectare plot of land in the center of Cẩm Xuyên town.
Delays in Implementation
Despite the approval and substantial investment, several aspects of the project remain unfinished. The construction of market stalls and commercial buildings, as well as the organization of events, has not been completed as planned.
In 2013, phase 1 of the project, which included the construction of a market with 1,000 stalls, was completed. However, despite its potential to be a major retail and wholesale center in the region, the market has not attracted many vendors.
Land Left Abandoned
As a result of the project delays and lack of interest from businesses, the land has been left abandoned and has become overgrown with weeds. Some areas have been repurposed as drinking establishments, while others have been used as dumping grounds for waste.
Efforts to revive the project have been made, such as the allocation of an additional 9,726m2 of land for phase 2 of the development. The second phase was intended to include a hotel, a commercial center, and various other facilities. However, these plans have yet to be realized.
Local Disappointment
The local community is disappointed with the lack of progress on the project. They believe that if the project had been completed, it would have transformed the area. Instead, the abandoned land has become an eyesore and a breeding ground for unsanitary conditions. The local authorities are now considering the possibility of reclaiming the land and seeking new investors to take over the project.
Phạm Hoàng Anh, the Vice Chairman of the Cẩm Xuyên District People’s Committee, has expressed concern about the project’s delays and their impact on the urban landscape. The local authorities are urging capable investors to step forward and bring the project to fruition.
