Surprising Features of Chinese Cars at Bangkok International Motor Show
The Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) this year witnessed the presence of many Chinese car brands compared to the previous year. Notable Chinese brands such as BYD, GWM, GAC, Neta, Geely, and others made an appearance at the event. Visitors were surprised by the number of Chinese car models showcased, as well as the large exhibition spaces dedicated to these brands. While Chinese car designs have improved significantly, upon closer inspection, it is evident that many details have been borrowed from famous car brands.
Tesla-Style Falcon Wing Doors
The Aion Hyper HT showcased at BIMS featured falcon-wing doors, similar to the ones found on the Tesla Model X. This controversial door design, which is a trademark of Tesla, is now present on a Chinese car model. The electric-powered opening mechanism of the Hyper HT’s doors is also reminiscent of the Model X.
Lamborghini and Land Rover-Inspired Door Handles
Hidden door handles, reminiscent of those found on supercars like the Lamborghini Huracan, were seen on most Chinese car models at the event. The Aion Y Plus, featured in the images above, showcases these door handles which are similar to those found on luxurious sports cars.
The door handles on the Chinese BYD Sea Lion 07 function similarly to those on the Land Rover Range Rover Velar, further highlighting the inspiration Chinese car manufacturers drew from established luxury SUV brands.
Mercedes-Benz-Inspired Start Button
Chinese car manufacturers have even replicated the distinctive start button from Mercedes-Benz models, with slight modifications. The image above shows the start button on the Changan Lumin, a small urban electric car, compared to similar buttons found in recent Mercedes-Benz models.
Mercedes-Benz-Inspired Air Vents
Chinese car models like the Tank 300 feature air vents with a similar design to those found in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The air vent mechanism, as well as the dual-screen setup, closely resemble the luxury features of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Lexus-Inspired Interior
The most eye-catching interior showcased at the event was in the BYD Denza D9 MPV. This model offers a luxurious option with four seats, including two special executive seats separated by a large TV screen. This design is reminiscent of the interior of the Lexus LM.
