Tesla Urges Customers to Stop “Torturing” Electric Pickup Trucks

In 2019, Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the Cybertruck, an electric pickup truck built with the toughest materials, perfectly finished, and capable of bullet resistance in the literal sense. Musk even claimed that the Cybertruck could be the ideal means of survival in the event of an apocalypse.

However, Musk’s statement inadvertently sparked a bizarre trend targeting the Cybertruck. Since late 2023, as soon as the first electric pickup trucks were delivered, some owners decided to test the durability of the Cybertruck using extreme measures and then posting the results online.

Some have thrown heavy objects at the truck’s windows, while others have gone so far as to shoot at them or set them on fire. Some have taken the truck through dangerous terrains or areas with high water levels, while others have jumped on it and kicked it.

Witnessing their product being literally tortured, Tesla engineers have spoken out. Wes Morrill, among others, has urged Cybertruck owners to stop mistreating their electric pickups just to create content.

“Cybertruck is going through a life of torture for the sake of entertainment. Jumping on it, kicking it, burning it, shooting it multiple times. Now everyone can attest to its strength. So can the Cybertruck run freely in peace?” Wes Morrill expressed on their personal X page.

By subjecting the Cybertruck to such abuse, owners can expect to have certain parts of the pickup truck requiring repair or replacement. However, as this is a user error, Tesla will certainly not accept any warranty claims.

Nevertheless, some owners view these damages as achievements. For example, YouTuber Zack Nelson shared with Insider that he intends to keep some of the bullet holes on his Cybertruck because “they look really cool”.

In the US market, the Tesla Cybertruck is priced between $60,990 and $99,990 for three versions. The AWD and Cyberbeast versions are planned to be released first, with the RWD version not hitting the market until 2025.
