Tourism Malaysia Aims to Enhance Air Connectivity to Malaysia through Routes Asia 2024

Tourism Malaysia is taking a proactive approach to expand air connectivity to Malaysia by hosting Routes Asia 2024’s Networking Evening. This event, held at Resorts World Langkawi, showcases the best of Malaysian gastronomy and culture to international delegates from over 60 countries.

As the host country for the 20th edition of Routes Asia, the stunning paradise of Langkawi will become the temporary home for over 800 delegates from February 27th to 29th, 2024. In collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Tourism Malaysia is co-hosting this three-day event, bringing together leading airlines, airports, and industry players from the Asia Pacific region.

This event not only serves as a milestone for the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) segment but also sets the stage for Malaysia’s future tourism endeavors. It is a prelude to Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year in 2026, ultimately anticipating a significant increase in tourist arrivals in the years to come. To achieve this goal, Tourism Malaysia has introduced a matching grant initiative aimed at stimulating the expansion of new direct and charter routes to Malaysia.

Mr. Manoharan Periasamy, the Director General of Tourism Malaysia, expressed his eagerness to collaborate with international airlines and tourism agencies to enhance air accessibility, frequency, and seat capacity to Malaysia. He hopes to see more carriers designating Malaysia as their preferred destination.

In 2023, Malaysia recorded a commendable 20.1 million international tourist arrivals, generating RM71.3 billion in tourist receipts. This year, Malaysia aims to attract 27.3 million arrivals, generating RM102.7 billion in tourism revenue.
