Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Chinese Billionaire in the US

Văn phòng Cảnh sát trưởng hạt Blanco, Texas, has confirmed the cause of death of Angela Chao, the billionaire CEO of Foremost Group, a shipping conglomerate. The police department referred to her death as a “regrettable accident,” according to CNBC^1^.

Angela Chao, aged 50, passed away on the night of February 10th when her Tesla electric car was found submerged in a pond near TP Johnson’s ranch in West Austin. At the time, the Chinese-born businesswoman was hosting a dinner party for seven female friends at the ranch, which she co-owns with her husband, billionaire Jim Breyer. The party ended around 11:30 PM, and Angela was driving back home when the incident occurred^2^.

According to one of Angela’s friends, at around 11:42 PM, she made a distressed phone call for help as her car plunged into the water. The call lasted for eight minutes before the Tesla sank completely, trapping Angela inside^2^. When the rescue team arrived, they managed to extricate her from the vehicle and bring her ashore, but Angela was pronounced dead at 1:40 AM on February 11th^2^.

The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office determined that Angela Chao had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.233 grams per 100 milliliters, which is three times the legal limit in Texas of 0.08^2^.

Angela Chao was the sister-in-law of the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell, a seasoned senator, is married to Angela’s sister, Elaine Chao, who previously served as the United States Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush and as the United States Secretary of Transportation under President Donald Trump^2^.
