Uncovering Deadly Flaws in Boeing’s Production Process
Boeing and its supplier, Spirit AeroSystems, have recently come under scrutiny in the United States. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a report revealing several concerning issues during the inspection of the 737 Max production. These findings have raised alarm bells within the aviation industry.
According to the FAA report, there were instances of non-compliance in Boeing’s production control, handling, storage of parts, and product evaluation processes. While specific rectification measures have not been disclosed, the FAA has shared a summary report with relevant parties.
The vulnerabilities in Boeing’s production processes are highly dangerous, as evidenced by the technical flaws that led to the two consecutive accidents involving the Boeing 737 Max in 2018 and 2019. These accidents claimed the lives of a total of 346 people.
In response to the latest FAA findings, a Boeing representative stated, “With the results of the latest inspection by the FAA, we now have a clear picture of what needs to be done.”
Spirit AeroSystems, the company responsible for manufacturing the fuselage of the 737 Max, is in contact with Boeing and the FAA to ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
On March 1st, Boeing confirmed that they are in talks to acquire Spirit AeroSystems, following its separation from the company in 2005.
The FAA’s extensive inspection was triggered by an incident on January 5th, where an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max-9 experienced a catastrophic door failure at an altitude of over 4,800 meters. In response, the FAA issued a ban on Boeing expanding the production of the 737 aircraft.
