Unexpected Revelation by the President of Belarus
Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko, revealed a surprising turn of events on March 26th. He stated, “We have put our units on high alert to prepare for combat situations. As a result, the terrorist group was unable to enter Belarus by any means. Realizing this, they redirected and moved towards the Ukraine – Russia border.”
Foiled Terrorist Attack
Until now, the Russian law enforcement agencies have detained eight suspects. A self-proclaimed terrorist group called the Khorasan Islamic State (ISIS-K), an ISIS branch in Afghanistan, claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack on the evening of March 22nd.
Of the eight suspects, six are Tajikistani citizens, while the other two hold Russian citizenship. According to Politico, there is currently no evidence linking these suspects to Belarus or Ukraine. However, Alexander Bortnikov, the Director of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), stated on March 26th that “statements from the detainees” confirm their involvement with Ukraine.
Diverging Views
In his post-attack speech, President Putin accused Ukraine of facilitating an escape for the terrorists. Russian officials subsequently reiterated these allegations, hinting at possible collusion between the United Kingdom, the United States, and Ukraine.
However, President Lukashenko’s comments contradict Russia’s claims entirely. The Belarusian leader has pledged to contact President Putin to discuss the investigation.
Meanwhile, according to the TASS news agency, Bortnikov believes that last week’s terrorist attack aimed to destabilize the situation in Russia. He emphasized that there is a significant amount of information circulating about Western countries and Ukraine attempting to inflict as much damage as possible on Russia.
