VinFast Adjusts Electric Vehicle Charging Prices

VinFast, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in Vietnam, has recently updated its charging fees for electric cars and motorcycles in the country. This adjustment comes as part of VinFast’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable and accessible electric charging options for its customers.

New Charging Prices

Starting from March 19th, 2024, VinFast’s public charging stations will offer a charging rate of 3.858 VNĐ/kWh (including VAT). This price reflects a 15% increase compared to the previous adjustment in November 2023. At that time, VinFast raised the charging price to 3.355 VNĐ/kWh, aligning it with the average retail electricity price increase announced by the state-owned utility company, EVN.

The overstay charging rate remains unchanged at 1,000 đồng/minute after the battery is fully charged. This allows customers to continue using the charging station after the initial charging period without putting strain on the system.

Expanding Charging Infrastructure

VinFast is currently the only electric vehicle company in Vietnam that develops and operates its own charging infrastructure. With over 150,000 charging ports spread across all 63 provinces and cities in the country, VinFast’s charging stations are conveniently located at bus stations, rest stops, gas stations, shopping centers, residential complexes, and office buildings.

In a recent development, VinFast’s founder and Chairman of Vingroup – Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong – announced the establishment of V-GREEN, a global charging infrastructure development company. V-GREEN will operate independently as a partner to VinFast, expanding the charging network on a global scale. This partnership will allow VinFast to focus on market expansion and sustainable development by reducing the financial burden of infrastructure investment.

Initially, V-GREEN will seek suitable locations and partners to establish and expand the charging network in key markets worldwide. It will also collaborate with third-party charging station providers to ensure a seamless charging experience for VinFast electric vehicle owners.

Investing in Vietnam’s Charging Infrastructure

In Vietnam, V-GREEN will be responsible for operating and managing the existing charging system and will invest an additional 10 trillion VND (estimated at $430 million) over the next two years to build new charging stations and enhance the current infrastructure. With this increased investment, three times the originally planned amount, V-GREEN aims to deploy a comprehensive charging network throughout the country, positioning Vietnam as a global leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

After approximately five years of operation and considering market demands and practicalities, V-GREEN may explore the opportunity to provide charging services to other electric vehicle brands beyond VinFast.
