White Smoke Engulfs Tokyo Train Station: Shocking Video Reveals Unbelievable Reaction of Japanese Citizens
In a shocking incident at Shinjuku train station in Tokyo, a plume of white smoke billowed from the ceiling near the ticket gate on the first floor of the Odakyu line. The incident triggered the activation of the fire alarm, prompting an immediate response from the emergency response team at around 11 a.m. local time on February 22nd, as reported by TBS Japan.
According to NHK, the incident was caused by a malfunction in a technical panel installed on the ceiling, resulting in continuous release of white smoke and enveloping the entire first floor of the station. As soon as the situation was discovered, the station authorities swiftly evacuated the passengers.
Photos captured at the scene and widely shared on Japanese online platforms showcased the station filled with smoke, limiting visibility. However, despite the circumstances, passengers remained remarkably calm and peacefully moved towards the exit area instead of causing panic and chaos inside the station, earning admiration from many.
Firefighters on the scene confirmed that the fire was not too serious and no injuries were reported. With the deployment of 14 fire trucks, they successfully extinguished the fire in approximately 20 minutes. However, as a precautionary measure, train services between Shinjuku and Keido stations on the Odakyu line were temporarily suspended. Normal operations were expected to resume by 12:05 p.m. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire.
