Xiaomi SU7 Spare Parts Already Available in China Even Before the Car is Sold

The highly anticipated Xiaomi SU7 electric car is scheduled to be officially launched and sold in China on March 28. However, much to everyone’s surprise, a wide range of spare parts for this car have already appeared on popular online platforms such as Taobao and JD.

These spare parts include steering wheels, brake calipers, brake pedals, and taillights, among others. Most of these parts bear the Xiaomi logo, indicating their authenticity.

The average price of a Xiaomi SU7 steering wheel ranges from 300 to 500 Chinese yuan (approximately 1 to 1.7 million Vietnamese dong), depending on its condition. However, many of the available steering wheels have damaged buttons, casing, or leather. On the other hand, the taillights are in better condition, with some even still sealed from the factory. Sellers claim they are “flawless, removed from brand new cars, with a 99% new condition.”

It is currently unknown where these spare parts originated from. Some speculate that they might have come from dismantled test cars or leaked from the factory.

Recently, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shared an image of part of the SU7 electric car production plant on the popular social media platform Weibo. According to previous reports from Chinese media, the plant is divided into two phases. Phase 1, covering an area of nearly 720,000 square meters, started construction in April 2022 and was completed in June 2023. Phase 2 is expected to begin construction in 2024 and be completed by 2025.

For CEO Lei Jun, venturing into the electric car market is his “final business mission in life.” The Xiaomi SU7 is the result of a more than 10 billion Chinese yuan (approximately 1.4 billion USD) investment to develop a prototype with a team of 3,400 engineers.
