Dubai’s Grand Gov Games Kick Off with Hamdan bin Mohammed

Government of Dubai Media Office: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, inaugurated the fifth edition of the exhilarating Gov Games in Dubai Festival City. This year’s event is the largest yet, with 194 teams from around the world participating in the four-day sporting extravaganza.

A Spectacle of Sportsmanship and Unity

Running until March 3, the Gov Games 2024 is hosted in partnership with DP World and in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council. The competition began with a thrilling Battle of the Government category, featuring 84 men’s and 26 women’s teams. Participants faced a series of physically and mentally demanding challenges that tested their limits.

Global Sporting Values on Display

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed praised the Gov Games as a symbol of global sporting values, including sportsmanship, teamwork, and community. The record-breaking number of international teams participating in this edition reflects the camaraderie and diversity of the event. With the return of 28 international teams competing in the Battle of the Cities, the Gov Games aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to reinforce Dubai’s status as a global sporting destination, prioritizing human development, creativity, and innovation.

Winning Teams

Day 1 Highlights

The first day of the Gov Games featured intense competition in the Battle of the Government category for both men and women. The top four women’s teams were Dubai Police, Emirates Schools Establishment, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority, and Roads & Transport Authority. The announcement of the men’s finalists will be made at the conclusion of all rounds.

A Global Stage for Excitement

This year’s Gov Games includes a total of 194 teams. In addition to the Battle of the Government, there are tournaments for the Battle of the Community and the Battle of the Cities, with teams representing various global cities. The Junior Gov Games also sees the participation of 28 teams. The atmosphere is filled with excitement and enjoyment as the teams compete.
